Sheila Landis has been performing her unique style of jazz and blues since 1973, and has appeared at Michigan's most prestigious festivals and concert venues. The Detroit Music Awards has chosen Sheila as 'Outstanding Jazz Vocalist' on seven occasions. Her catalogue of recorded work has received radio airplay in both local and national markets since 1981. Sheila draws her inspiration from classic jazz vocalists Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae and Billie Holiday, as well as such modern artists as Joni Mitchell, Flora Purim, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Stevie Wonder. Sheila's horn-like sense of melody and rhythm combines with her outstanding skill in the art of scat singing. The result is a vocal performance that scales the heights, bouncing effortlessly from blues and Brazilian to bebop and beyond.
