Eric Weir is Gold Soundz.

Tiny Steps

Eventually a reckless scrutiny of deep hooks and a steep pedigree in classic pop got the best of Eric Weir; distracted him from the syllogism that writing songs on Detroit soil had a prerequisite exclusivity to regurgitate the long-dead rock ‘n’ roll saints of the Motor City. A student of the legendary Cass Corridor stage at Zoots, he fronted the power pop quartet Spindle, which was an essential part of Detroit’s burgeoning underground pop community. After label and personnel problems led to the unraveling of Spindle, Weir holed up with a four-track in his basement. Evidence from his writing points to the timeless essentials, such as late Beatles and early Petty, as well as more contemporary pop icons in Sloan and Jason Falkner. The common denominator between Weir’s influences and his work lies in an appreciation of creating enigmatic hooks, that properly distilled make an ounce of ennui, three chords and a persistent melody into a transcendent expression of humanity. –Nate Cavalieri
