Media City Film Festival Opening Night

If there's anything worth dragging your butt to Canada for, it's the Media City Film Festival, which starts this week. Coming up on it's 20-year-anniversary, the Media Festival has been putting international and local films under the microscope since 1994. Luckily for you, the first event of the test takes place in your own backyard. The American experimental composer Alvin Lucier will be performing four songs alongside internationally renowned cellist Charles Curtis in an evening of beautifully weird vibrations and piercing notes. Lucier received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Society for Electro-Acoustic Music and is currently a professor of music at Wesleyan University. Additionally, Brooklyn-based artist Bruce McClure will be engaging in a rarely seen projection performance using numerous 16-mm film projectors. He's known on for "performing" films rather than making them.
