  • Scarab Club

"The Scarab Club of Detroit is the outgrowth of the Hopkin Club, which was started about 1907 by admirers of old 'Bob' Hopkin, Detroit's first painter of wide repute. After Hopkin's death in 1910, the Club was reorganized and renamed the Scarab Club, after the Egyptian beetle which was their symbol of imortality. ... Our mission is to encourage the fellowship between artists and those interested in the arts, and to provide a place where artists may create and exhibit their work. We offer opportunities to all area artists to enter most of our shows, held usually from September to June of every year." from the Scarab Club Web page.

Jazz Age: REDUX The photography of Bridgett Davenport

Bridgett Davenport has had a camera in her hands since the age of 12. Originally a studio photographer, she expanded to the subjects of landscapes and food. She found her muse in art nudes which focus on emotions in her subject matter. Bridgett also assists in producing art shows and has edited or co-edited several art books. The Jazz Age series was inspired by the work of Alfred Cheney Johnston, who shot the Zeigfeld Follies girls of the 1920's. Trying to stay true to the originals, the fabrics, props and lighting were used to re-create the photos with each performer.
