OUTSIDE MUSIC FOR INSIDERS

Trinosophes Grand Opening!

If you’re relatively new to town, here’s the backstory: Joel Peterson helmed eclectically out-there, improvisational programming at the out-of-the-way Bohemian National Home roughly 2004-2008, then continued that aesthetic edge under the itinerant banner (anywhere I pass my hat is home) of the Bohemian in Exile, before putting a flag in the ground with Trinosophes, which has been presenting likewise great music for months building to this official opening. The lineup includes an exhibition by Bailey Scieszka, mirrors (yup) by Jimbo Easter, DJs Brad Hale, Scott Zacharias and the Blackman, James Baljo, Skeeter Shelton’s Spectrum 2, Isles of ESP, Detroit-style Dada rock from the Space Band, with the Matthew Shipp Trio as the headlining out-of-towners. Shipp, for the uninitiated, is one of the titans of cutting-edge jazz piano, an heir to the Cecil Taylor throne, but hardly an imitator (plays and deconstructs lots of standards, for one thing). Blend in with the crowd by saying, “Oh, yeah: Dug him at the old place in ’06.”
