Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

You see pictures of Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, you hear that band name, and it’s hard not to jump to the conclusion that this is some twee pop singer-songwriter collective in the Rilo Kiley vein. In fact, these guys (and one girl) rock hard, and Potter has a gorgeous voice reminiscent of Janis Joplin — all warm and throaty. The band has been together since 2004 and in that time has released an impressive six studio albums. The latest is last year’s The Lion, the Beast and the Beat, along with the “Stars” single, so expect to hear all of that.
