Jason Lockwood Benefit

Ten years ago, Metro Times reporter Lisa M. Collins interviewed the anarchist founders of a new business called Idle Kids. They included Dave Kujawa, 24, and Jason Lockwood, 28, two energetic people looking for something progressive and constructive to put their energy into. That’s why, a few years ago, Kujawa’s suicide sent shock waves through Detroit’s tight-knit left-progressive scene. So you can imagine what a blow it was when news of Lockwood’s suicide hit about a month ago. Detroit’s anarchist hangout, the Trumbullplex, is hosting a benefit; we don’t know the charity, but we’re sure it’s a decent one. Besides the music, this should give Lockwood’s old pals a good place to remember the good times and celebrate the spirit that sustained him. After all, as Lockwood told Collins: “Skateboarding and punk-rock music saved my life.” With performances from Hellmouth, Bump-N-Uglies, Against the Grain, Downtown Brown and the Dewtowns.
