DJ Shadow might be considered a pioneer of electronic music, integral in developing instrumental hip-hop, but did you know that his cousin is Poison and Mr. Big guitarist Richie Kotzen? No matter. Shadow’s Endtroducing album was the first to be recorded using only samples, which some would consider to be a dubious honor, but it highlights the man’s desire to see music evolve. While some consider Bristol in the UK to be the home of trip-hop thanks to bands like Massive Attack and Portishead, the term was first used to describe Shadow. He truly is a unique artist, a man who uses pre-existing music to create noise never before heard. The show at the Majestic will be a rare treat.
