Visions of Cobb's Corner
Cobb’s Corner was one of the places for jazz in the late ’70s, the spot for the Lyman Woodard Organization, Griot Galaxy, the Prismatic Band, and Marcus Belgrave among others. Belgrave and his vocalist wife, Joan, recall the Cobb’s era in a bi-weekly after-work series at the Roberts Riverwalk Hotel, in the Stroh River Place Complex. The much-lauded Belgrave will be featured in a big way during the upcoming Detroit Jazz Festival, but this will be a chance to hear him celebrate a unique piece of his past in an intimate setting. From 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the hotel, 1000 River Place Dr., Detroit; 313-259-9500: $10 solo, $15 couples. (Joan Belgrave leads the sets at the hotel on the Aug. 31, with a tribute to Dinah Washington.)
