Reigning Sound debuted in the early ’00s, cutting its nitty-gritty garage with the urgency of classic soul and R&B. Fronted by singer-songwriter Greg Cartwright — a staple of the Memphis rock scene thanks to his Compulsive Gamblers and the Oblivians — the Sound’s combo of swirling organs, muscular riffs and Cartwright’s fierce rasp is bound to rub you all wrong, in the right kind of way. In the last few years, Cartwright has stayed busy both inside and outside of Reigning Sound — the group released a full-length, Love & Curses, in 2009, and in 2011, Cartwright performed at the Blowout with side project the Parting Gifts, digitally released a Reigning Sound mini-LP Abdication … For Your Love; and finished work on a new Oblivians LP, due out sometime this year. At 9 p.m. at the Park Bar, 2040 Park Ave., Detroit; 313-962-2933; $10 at the door; with the Sights and Kelly Jean Caldwell.
