Identity Festival
LIKE A CIRCUS WITH SYNTHS
In much the same way that the circus rolls into town bringing exotic animals, elite entertainers and, inevitably, a freak or two, Identity, a traveling electronic music festival, rolls into Pontiac this week with synths and drum machines pumping sweet rhythms, laser-lit stages, electronic music artists and, well, a freak or two. One of the most anticipated acts is media-wary Eric Prydz, a media-wary Swede best known for “that” video featuring chicks in workout gear pumping and thrusting to the beat of his hit “Call on Me.” Prydz never gave permission to have his music paired with the promo and has shied from media attention ever since — hasn’t given an interview in six years and generally sticks to his London studio where he produces dark, brooding electronica. But with his first artist album ready to drop, he’s overcome his reticence to hit the 20 cities in Identity’s second annual tour. Also notable is Arty, a youngster popular with both the new EDM generation and the seasoned veterans of the dance arena, not to mention Nero, Bingo Players, Showtek and Madeon among the acts playing the five festival stages. On the Elektricity Festival Grounds across from Elektricity Nightclub and the Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac. Tickets are available at idfestival.com or through ticketmaster.
