Foster the People
This L.A. trio blew up thanks to the success of its radio-friendly single "Pumped Up Kicks," which dominated airwaves last year. The band's sound is a blend of soulful pop and synth-driven electronica, topped off with punchy choruses that are impossible to forget. The relentlessly upbeat dance-pop stands in contrast to the somewhat bristly lyrics of frontman Mark Foster, who sings about mowing down hipsters and rails against the scene in various ways. The catchy noise can be heard on the group's hit 2011 debut, Torches. With Tokyo Police Club.
