As the founder of K Records and member of indie act Beat Happening, Calvin Johnson helped spawn a true, DIY ethos by supporting the community of bands and fans, putting out cheap records, and championing idealism and unbridled creativity above and beyond commercial concerns. One of his many current projects, Hive Dwellers offers a stripped down, raucous take on early rock with thumping bass, groovy guitar and Johnson’s rumbling baritone belting out cheeky lyrics. The trio performs in support of its forthcoming disc, Hewn From the Wilderness, Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Lo & Behold Records & Books (10022 Joseph Campau, Hamtramck) and Thursday at 8 p.m. at Dreamland Theater (26 N Washington, Ypsilanti).
