A Pulitzer finalist and Tony Best Play nominee, this comedy by Sarak Ruhl was inspired by Rachel P. Maines’ book The Technology of the Orgasm. Enough said? Probably, but to further wet your whistle: The play tells the tale of one Dr. Givings (of course) who invents a vibrating device to treat female hysteria. Oh my! But the instrument doesn’t so much soothe as stimulate, bringing more and more supposedly hysterical women to the good doctor’s door. The rise in lady patients arouses his wife’s curiosity, who sets out to try the device for herself. Along with the obvious, plenty of laughs also ensue. At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Performance Network Theatre, 120 E. Huron St., Ann Arbor; 734-663-0681; performancenetwork.org; $22-$41; performances through July 15.
