Asian Corned Beef has opened a new branch at the corner of Warren and Woodward in Detroit. Named Asian Corned Beef & Ocean, this new restaurant is like the old Asian Corned Beef, which opened in 1978. Owner Hason White serves up their famous corned beef, which is prepared in an Asian style, along with some fast-food items, including their popular Asian corned beef and cheeseburger. As the name implies, the decorations inside this Cultural Center-area restaurant are related to the ocean. Fish-themed paintings and other works of art are displayed all around the 45-seat restaurant. Orders can also be placed by phone.

Baileys and Fox in the Hound are relaxed pub enviroments. More than 20 TVs, 40 beers on draft, eight pool tables and gorgeous servers. Home of $2 Tuesdays where all draft beers are just $2.

Once part of the triumvirate of the area’s classic, old-line Italian-American restaurants (Mario’s, Lelli’s, Larco’s), with roots going back a half century to Detroit’s Six Mile Road, Larco's has now become Big Beaver Tavern, with the management going for a sports tavern format, with burgers, fries, wide-screen televisions and poker and blackjack tables in the basement. The customers seem to enjoy the video games, bartop games and DJs, and the food quality remains high. They're selling 1,000 burgers a week, but they still serve the same 8-ounce filet mignon that they served as Larco's since 1990.

Irish pubs, which have long been a feature of the American drinking scene, have become a worldwide phenomenon, flourishing in such unlikely venues as Moscow and Tokyo. And so it makes sense that the Blarney Stone's everyday menu is all-American pub grub. The Susie-Q-Fish & Chips dinner ($10.95) is based on the original recipe of the celebrated drive-in restaurant. Burton fries his freshly-cut scrod encased in a secret-recipe batter that emerges as a thick, crispy but surprisingly light crust, accompanied by house-made tartar sauce and Susie's vinegar-based cole slaw. Try the order of five flavorful burger sliders ($5.95) - with pickles, onions and a tomato-mustard sauce. There are 10 other burger varieties, including, again for the health-conscious, bison or turkey.
This east side staple has been bringing a little piece of Memphis to Macomb County for years, featuring some of the Detroit area’s best blues bands. The venerable restaurant serves a full menu of tavern fare such as steaks, pizza and burgers; lake perch is a house specialty. And live rip-roaring blues can be seen and heard every night except Monday and Thursday at the Goose.

Black Jake & the Carnies set fierce murder ballads, dark warnings, and a certain tough rust-belt revivalism to the beat of an old-time string band. This octet offers a unique blend of Americana, bluegrass, and punk. Their ten-song debut record, "Where the Heather Don't Grow," was recorded and mixed by Jim Roll in his Ann Arbor studio.
